Oboe

The Oboe Principal of the South Danish Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Sai Kai was born in Beijing. Started music at a very young age, he has attended the China Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, Indiana University in Bloomington, USA, Royal College of Music in London, England and Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Between 2001 and 2003, he was working as orchestra apprentice at Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich, and he has frequently been invited to take part in orchestra academy in Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Verbier Music Festival as oboe principal.

Mr. Kai has won multiple scholarships, awards, and competitions, some of which include the Irwing & Lena Lo Award, Indiana University School of Music Merit Award, Queen Elisabeth, the Queen’s Mother Music Scholarship, Royal College of Music Senior Oboe Prize, the First China National Chamber Music Competition for Wind and Brass, Isle Of Wight International Oboe Competition in England, Crussel International Oboe Competition in Finland, Jeuness Musicale in Belgrade and Isle of Man International Oboe Competition.

As a soloist, Mr. Sai Kai has performed concerts with various orchestras, including South Danish Symphony Orchestra, Fredericia Symphony, Thüringen Philharmonie, Bournemouth Sinfonietta, Aukso Chamber Orchestra, Cappella Ispolotina, Wiener Frauen Orchester, Lituan Chamber Orchestra, Asia Philharmonic Orchestra, etc. In May 2008, Sai Kai had his live radio premiere with Danish Radio 2 for his performance of Mozart concerto at Sonderborg, Denmark. As an orchestral musician, he has frequently been guest artists with Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Munich State Opera, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Malmo Symphony, Aahus Symphony, Aalborg Symphony, Asia Philharmonic, etc.
